Remanufactured 5.3L long block for 2007–2009 Chevrolet and GMC truck/SUV applications using the LMG or LY5 engine family. This stock-replacement engine is built for owners and repair shops that need the correct application—not an unknown used pullout. Send us the VIN before ordering and GOAT Engines will help confirm fitment.

Common vehicle applications

  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban and Avalanche
  • GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL

Applications vary by model, drivetrain, emissions package and production date. Confirm the original engine RPO and VIN code before ordering. LMG applications are commonly identified by RPO LMG / VIN code 0; LY5 applications are commonly identified by RPO LY5 / VIN code J. This listing is not interchangeable with every 5.3L engine from the same years.

Engine specifications

  • Displacement: 5.3 liters / 325 cubic inches
  • Engine family: GM Gen IV small-block V8
  • Engine codes: LMG and LY5
  • Block: cast iron
  • Cylinder heads: aluminum
  • Fuel: gasoline or flex-fuel, depending on the original application
  • Condition: professionally remanufactured long block

What is included

The order includes the remanufactured long block, crated freight shipment, warranty documentation and core-return paperwork. Unless specifically shown or stated, external components are not included.

Parts normally transferred from the original engine

Plan to transfer application-specific components such as the intake manifold, fuel system, throttle body, exhaust manifolds, oil pan or pickup where required, front cover, sensors, wiring, accessory drive, flexplate or flywheel and engine-management components. Reuse only serviceable parts and follow the vehicle manufacturer’s installation procedures.

Fitment, freight and core return

Fitment can change with VIN, RPO code, AFM/DOD configuration, emissions equipment, reluctor pattern, timing-cover layout and electronics. Send us your VIN. We’ll confirm fitment before you order.

Outbound engine freight is a flat $299. If you return the rebuildable core, return freight is also $299 and is deducted from the core refund—there is no additional return-freight payment up front. The refundable core deposit is shown separately at checkout.

Warranty

This remanufactured engine includes a 3-year limited warranty. Warranty eligibility requires correct installation, required pre-installation checks, proper priming, documented fluid and filter service, and compliance with the supplied break-in and warranty instructions.

Make sure this is the right direction

Exact replacement Best when the vehicle needs the correct LS-based replacement engine.
Classic small-block Better for older swaps where a traditional Chevy small-block is the goal.
Torque upgrade A stroker-style build makes more sense when the project is not a direct replacement.
Big-block build Only consider big-block direction when the chassis and drivetrain are planned for it.

3-Year Limited Warranty

The written warranty supplied with your engine defines mileage limits, covered components, labor eligibility, exclusions and claim requirements. Keep your invoice and installation records, follow the supplied instructions, and obtain authorization before warranty repairs.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a stock-replacement long block or a fully dressed turn-key engine?

This is a stock-replacement reman long block built for the exact application family shown on this page, not a carbureted turn-key hot rod package.

Which vehicles does this version fit?

This version is aimed at 2007-2009 Chevy Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Suburban & Tahoe; 2007-2009 GMC Sierra 1500 & Yukon. Fitment still needs to be confirmed by year, VIN/application details, and platform-specific hardware.

What engine code or application details should I match before ordering?

Match the year range, vehicle application, and the correct engine/application details for this listing: LMG/LY5. VIN 0/J; 1-bolt cam gear; DOD solenoid plate installed; cam sensor on left side of timing cover; check PCV per GM TSB guidance.

Does this version keep the original valvetrain/fuel-management style setup?

This version is listed with a DOD solenoid plate installed and a left-side timing-cover cam sensor, so the original management layout matters.

Is a core charge required?

Yes. The listed selling price is for the engine itself; the core charge is separate and is handled through the reman core-return process after the correct rebuildable core is returned and accepted.

Is this in stock and ready to ship?

These were chosen from the current ready-to-ship / active-availability supplier flow, but live availability can move quickly, so we verify final stock status when your order is placed.

Do you help verify fitment before ordering?

Yes. GOAT will help confirm the correct year range, VIN/application details, electronics, and stock-style fitment direction before you place the order.

What warranty applies?

3-Year Limited Warranty. The written warranty supplied with your engine defines mileage limits, covered components, labor eligibility, exclusions and claim requirements. Keep your order and installation records and contact GOAT Engines before warranty repairs.
