2003–2008: early HEMI applications

What to investigate before replacing a 5.7L HEMI

These are practical replacement-engine checks. They are not a diagnosis of a specific vehicle, and the root cause of the original failure should be identified before a reman long block goes in.

MDS-equipped applications have additional cylinder-deactivation hardware. If the original failure involves lifters, camshaft or oil control, identify the complete failure path before installing the replacement.

An MDS Ram 1500 engine should not be treated as the same catalog replacement as a non-MDS heavy-duty 2500/3500 engine simply because both are 5.7L VIN T applications.
